How wonderful to see all of you on Tuesday for the Thanksgiving Feast! The children and I were so excited to have you join us for lunch.
There are many upcoming events at Teasley! *Don't forget the Tiger Trot on November 20 from 9:05-9:55 during our specials...so please send your child to school WEARING tennis shoes. *The Winterfest will be on December 5, and 1st graders are asked to donate hot chocolate packets. *Square 1 Art orders are due by November 30. Please complete the forms sent home from Mrs. Brooks. *The Teasley Reading Committee will be sponsoring "Tiger Tales" from 4:00-7:00 on December 3 at the Cumberland Mall Barnes & Noble. Teachers have volunteered to read holiday books and wrap purchases made by Teasley families. I have signed up to read at 4:20 in the children's area and wrap at 4:40 near the check-out. I hope to see you and your child there! 10% of purchases will be donated back to Teasley. We are sad that November 20 will be Harini's last day, as her family will be relocating to Alpharetta. Harini, you will be missed!! I wish you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. Peace, Love, First Grade! Yes, our Social Studies Suitcase came again this week! The suitcase included some unusual items. Who would have used: corn; soup; crayons; pork; a beaded pouch; and a compass? Of course Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea would have used these items for their journey to discover a route to the Pacific Ocean. Thomas Jefferson asked Lewis to gather a group to explore the Louisiana Purchase.
In Science we learned about Magnets and the items they repel or attract. Ask your child about magnet safety around certain items in your home; the types of magnets we used in experiments; how to float a magnet; and items that are repelled or attracted by magnets. Reminders for next week: *Canned Food Drive: November 16-20 *Thanksgiving Lunch: Tuesday, November 17 at 11:40 *Tiger Trot: November 20 during specials (9:05-9:55) Please note: families who previously donated a lump sum to PTA/PAWS, your children will each receive a pedometer. *Winterfest Donations: Please send cocoa mix for our December 5 tree lighting. *Talent Show permission slips are due by November 20. Permission slips can be accessed at http://www.cobblearning.net/teasleytalentshow/. This week our social studies suitcase returned with: several books, farm animals, a quill pen and ink set, and a nickel. If you guessed Thomas Jefferson, you're right! We practiced signing our names with the quill...it was tough! We noticed several crumpled pages on the floor in a painting about the Declaration of Independence, and now we know why!
Thank you to the parents and grandparents who attended our Magical Morning of Math. We enjoyed teaching you about Number Talks and addition card games. Our PTA will be sponsoring the Tiger Trot during specials on November 20. Parents are invited to attend and make online pledges. Thanksgiving Lunch for first grade will be held on November 17 from 11:40-12:20. Please join us! Thank you to Mrs. Beason for setting up a way for you to subscribe to our blog.
