*Since we have only received 2 alphabet projects so far, our monthly homework calendar will not begin until we return from Labor Day on Tuesday, September 6. Please take the weekend to enjoy your family and finish your alphabet projects. I can't wait to see your creativity next week. So far, Austin made a 3-d Watermelon slice sewn with real thread, and Harrison made a papier mache Basketball!
*Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day! *Peace, Love, First Grade!

*It is hard to believe that we just completed our 4th week of school! What an exciting month we've had! Our 2nd Zero the Hero visited us from 3rd grade to bring us an edible zero. Thanks to our wonderful Book Buddies and Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Bates for making counting by 10s special.
*Don't forget to sign up for our private Instagram account: peacelove1stgrade to view pictures of latest events in room 233. *Thanks to those parents and students who attended our Chick-fil-A fundraiser...fun and delicious! *Please send class t-shirt money by September 2nd, so we can place our order. Our class' color will be turquoise...until we tie-dye them! They will be unique, just like our students. *Homework will begin on September 1, so be on the lookout for a monthly calendar in your child's folder. Please refer to your handbook for any questions. *Literacy Testing continues! The average test is running approximately 1 hour, so please remember to meet me at the BACK BUSPORT DOOR at your drop-off and pick-up appointment times. I have tested 7 students so far, and I am so pleased with their literacy foundations. *Peace, Love, First Grade! Hello! As I type this blog entry tonight, the 2016 Rio Closing Ceremonies are playing in the background. What wonderful lessons the Olympics teach us: civility, perseverance, and pride, just to name a few. Ashton walked in the other day full of excitement after watching Usain Bolt, now dubbed "The Fastest Man in the World." and later, Austin and Sasha bubbled over with excitement about their love of his country, Jamaica. Don't you just LOVE first graders?! I certainly do! :)
*Please remember that Tuesday is Picture Day, and students are required to wear standard attire. Refer to the tab above, if you have any questions about clothing items. Also, students can wear solid sweaters or jackets in our building; Teasley hoodies are the only ones allowed at school. *Our last homework project will be to create a 3-d alphabet item to attach to our alphabet wall. Students will choose a letter this week, so be on the lookout for information in your child's folder. *Don't forget to sign up for our class Instagram at: peacelove1stgrade to see all the latest photos of our class events. *Please return your directory form ASAP. David Orsini, Jude's dad, has agreed to create this for our class. *Peace, Love, First Grade! *Yahoo! It's new! Request to follow us on our private Instagram account: peacelove1stgrade. If you are adding an email address that I may not recognize, please send a note in your child's folder, so that I can determine the identity of the person requesting to follow us and accept it. To ensure the safety of all members of our classroom community, I will ONLY accept family members of students in our current class.
*Open House: Thank you for attending Open House last week. I enjoyed sharing my philosophy with you and look forward to building a strong foundation for your child's academic and social success. If you have a 3:15 or a 4:00 appointment, please meet me at the back bus port door by our room at your designated time.. *Math and reading assessments will be given on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 in the computer lab. PLEASE BE ON TIME and EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST. *Our LAST home project is coming soon! The children will each choose a letter and create a 3-d wall alphabet item...details to follow. You will have at least 2 weeks to complete these unique masterpieces, so don't fret. *The Memory Boxes and parent letters are sensational! The children made so many connections when learning about each of us. Please feel free to continue to send these to school as we build our classroom community. *CURRICULUM: We will continue working on our writing workshop procedures and discuss the stages of writing. In math we are counting to 120 in a variety of ways. Weather is our current topic in science, and we will learn about our first famous American hero in social studies. *Peace, love, first grade! What an exciting day in our class! Zero the Hero came to our room for the 10th day of school to teach us about his job. He also gave us a yummy edible "zero." Thank you, Zero the Hero!
